[HOW TO] Open 7-Zip files in Xubuntu

To be able to open/extract 7-Zip files (7z extension) in Xubuntu we need the p7zip-full package. Check bellow for instructions on how to install it.

Install

Open a terminal window and run:

sudo apt-get install p7zip-full -y

    And what about only installing p7zip, not "full" ?
    p7zip-full gives ZIP support but file-roller can manage those files...

      The difference between p7zip and p7zip-full is that the "full" also installs 7za. 7za is a stand-alone executable while 7z uses plugins to handle archives. File Roller can not manage anything on its own, it's only a graphical interface to archiving utilities.

Add items to Xfce Applications Menu

To add an application launcher to Xfce Applications Menu is simple; all you have to do is place the *.desktop file that launches the application in the right folder. Create the *.desktop file Create a text file whose extension is 'desktop', with the following content: [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Type=Application Name= ItemName Exec= Command Icon= IconFile Categories= Category ; On ItemName write the name that should be displayed on the menu.
