[NEWS] Firefox 19 has native PDF support

Fifefox 19 Beta has been released and now PDF files can be viewed in the web-browser using a native viewer written in Javascript. Actually, this is a experimental feature that has been available and could be toggled on, but it's enabled by default in Firefox 19.

Firefox 19 Beta running on Xubuntu 12.10

Install Firefox 19 Beta

Open a terminal window and run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next -y && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox

  1. Mostly useful for Windows users, isn't it ?
    As a "sometimes" Linux user, I always found PDF to be readable very quickly through default Linux PDD viewers...

    1. It's useful both to Linux and Windows users: we can view a PDF file found on the web without having to go through the process of saving and opening it on the desktop PDF viewer.

    1. Abra "Settings Manager > Keyboard > Layout" e adicione o layout português.

      As teclas terão a seguinte correspondência:

      Português Portugal: http://goo.gl/XuHO6
      Português Brasil: http://goo.gl/60zUO

  5. For those of us who like to own our knowledge instead of living with our brains in the cloud, how do we disable this abomination?

    Thanks!

    1. This feature has nothing to do with cloud storage. To see the PDF on your system's PDF viewer, just right-click the link and choose 'save to disk'.

      Alternatively, you can change the Firefox preferences: open the applications tab and search for PDF. Select 'use document viewer (default)' as the action.
